Foundation Trust Success for Airedale Hospital

Airedale Hospital has been authorised as an NHS Foundation Trust, with effect from 1 June, 2010.

Monitor – the independent body which regulates Foundation Trusts - announced the news after Airedale showed excellent performance on quality of services and robust plans for the future.

Further details of the Trust's Terms of Authorisation and other documents can be found on the Monitor website.

Why is being an NHS Foundation Trust good for Airedale Hospital?

  • We have much more freedom to make sure our future plans best meet the unique needs of our local community
  • We can retain any extra money we generate to invest in new services, and can borrow money to support these investments
  • We are more accountable and answerable to local people through membership and our new Council of Governors

From 1 June, 2010, the new name for the Trust will be Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.
