Translating research into patient care

Patient Information

Quality of information is a key aspect of the overall patient experience.  It can take various forms including leaflets, posters, booklets, videos, tapes, websites and CD Roms.  Patient information can also be for people who are not ill, such as health promotion information, or information for carers

The NHS Constitution makes it clear that people have the right to reliable information to help them make choices.  Good quality information will help people make confident, informed decisions about their health care.

Airedale NHS Foundation Trust is working towards achieving accreditation with the ‘Information Standard’ which is a Department of Health initiative.

We currently have a Readers’ Panel which consists of members of the public who have volunteered their time to read patient information produced by the Trust, whilst in a draft stage. Members are asked for their views on the type of language used, the structure of sentences and paragraphs, the style of presentation, and if they feel it will be understood by its target audience. By asking for opinions from a sample audience, the Readers’ Panel ensures publications are easily understood and resources are not wasted by producing leaflets that patients do not understand.

If you would be interested in becoming a member of the Readers’ Panel, please contact the Senior PALS Manager, Sue Harle.  Her contact details are:
