MISSION STATEMENT
Speech & Language Therapy provide a Trust-wide service to people with communication
and swallowing problems which:
- combines consultation, assessment, treatment and advice to enable the client to reach and maintain the maximum level of communicative potential.
- combines consultation, assessment and advice to enable the client to eat and drink as
safely as possible. - is sensitive to the needs of the client, offering advice and support to both patients and their carers.
- ensures an effective and equitable distribution of services within agreed resources. Service Aims:
- To develop responsive services, where appropriate on an integrated basis with other disciplines, to enable clients to fulfil their communicative potential and to enable carers to create an optimally supportive, communicative environment for the client.
- To develop responsive services offering timely assessment of feeding / swallowing skills and providing advice regarding management of feeding / swallowing problems to promote safe oral intake.
- To provide objective assessment outcomes, to agree appropriate, evidence-based management plans with both client and carer and to plan therapy evaluation.
Service Objectives:
- To provide equitable, responsive and effective services within resource limitations.
- To enable all clients to receive an appropriate level of service.
- To provide services that are responsive to local needs, are outcome-focused and client-led.
- To support relevant Government / regional / local strategic planning targets.
- To develop robust partnership working and integrated services.
- To work towards recommended caseload size.
- To develop services following best practice, total quality management principles and
reflecting Clinical Governance philosophy
