Translating research into patient care

Volunteering

Airedale NHS Foundation Trust acknowledges the valuable contribution made by volunteers and regards them as part of the hospital team. They provide a wide range of dedicated services for patients and visitors.

  • All volunteers are formally screened through the Voluntary Services Department and understand the issues around confidentiality and equal opportunities
  • All volunteers are CRB (police) checked
  • All volunteers are health screened through Employee Health and Wellbeing Services
  • Volunteers sign an agreement with Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and are issued with a volunteer identity badge
  • Volunteers are required to undertake any training which is deemed through a training needs analysis to be essential to their work as volunteers
  • Volunteers working directly with hospital staff must have their activity included in that department's Risk Assessment
  • Volunteers are invited to be involved in any of over 40 different volunteer activities and placements are available on all days of the week
  • The activities which volunteers carry out are different to the work of paid staff and are specifically designed to enhance the quality of a patient's stay in Airedale General Hospital. Volunteers will not be used to cover any staff shortages or to displace the role of paid employees
