What my department does:
Management of acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions in adults including: ischaemic heart disease, cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, syncope, hypertension, inherited cardiac conditions, heart muscle disorders, pericardial diseases and valvular heart disease.
I do coronary angiograms, permanent pacemakers and complex cardiac devices (defibrillators and biventricular pacemakers) in our cardiac cath lab. There is a range of non-invasive cardiac imaging options including transthoracic echo, transoesophageal echo and stress echo. Cardiac CT is under development and will be launched soon. Cardiorespiratory department carries out a full range of cardiovascular / respiratory diagnostics.
What my department doesn’t do:
Myocardial perfusion scanning
Electrophysiological studies and catheter ablation
My areas of interest:
Cardiac arrhythmias, pacing, heart failure, complex cardiac devices and ischaemic heart disease.
My academic background:
Qualified from Alexandria University, Egypt. Postgraduate study and training in various NHS trusts in the UK. Cardiology training in Northwest deanery with subspecialty training in electrophysiological studies and ablations of cardiac arrhythmias.
