Theatres and Endoscopy Open Day

Date: Saturday 12 May 2012
Venue: Theatres and Endoscopy departments, Level 1, Airedale General Hospital
Time: 11.00am to 3.00pm

Try your hand at being a surgeon or a nurse using state-of-the-art equipment during a family open day at Airedale Hospital. Staff from the endoscopy unit have joinied forces with the hospital’s theatre team this year to provide a behind-the-scenes look at how they operate. • using trauma equipment in a workshop on mending bones
  • trying out keyhole surgery with our simulator
  • using a camera to see inside a stomach
  • use specialist endoscopy equipment to retrieve unusual objects
  • take up our handwashing challenge
  • have a go at anaesthetics and look after a patients’ airway using a mannequin
  • take a tour of our anaesthetic room, theatres and recovery room
  • watch a DVD on procedures such as cataract surgery
  • take apart an eyeball (not a real one)
  • learn about resuscitation and life support talk to nurses who are specialists on irritable bowel syndrome and the bowel cancer screening programme
  • find out about career opportunities

Anyone is welcome to just turn up on the day, parking will be free of charge and refreshments will be provided.
