14th July 2015 – Help to understand diabetes and sport
People with diabetes can find out how to manage their condition and take part in sport at a special event hosted by the diabetes team from Airedale Hospital.
Organised by consultant diabetologist, Dr Andy Pettit, the event features dietitian Francesca Annan from Alder Hey Hospital, an expert on sport and diabetes.
It takes place at Steeton Hall on Thursday 23 July and starts with a hot buffet, at 6.30pm, followed by a presentation at 7.00pm. Healthcare professionals, as well as patients and their relatives and carers, are welcome to attend.
The talk is planned for around an hour and there will be an opportunity afterwards to ask questions and meet other patients and healthcare professionals.
Dr Andy Pettit, consultant diabetologist, at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust said: “We have recieved a good response so far but there are still a few places remaining. Helping patients cope with their condition is just one aspect of what we do and providing patients with information about diabetes and sport can really make a difference to their lives. It’s important that we show people that having diabetes needn’t be a barrier to exercise.”
People interested in attending the event should contact the diabetes department by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 01535 292027 to book a place. Places are free but do need to be booked in advance, for catering purposes.
