28th July 2016 – Airedale Hospital hosts its first ever careers event
A special event is being held at Airedale Hospital for the first time ever to promote the diverse range of careers available within the NHS. The Airedale Careers Fair will be held on Friday 19 August, 11am – 3pm, in the education centre at the hospital and outside in a marquee.
With 1.3 million staff, the NHS is one of the largest employers in the world offering over 350 different career opportunities. With over 2,600 staff, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest employers locally.
Staff representing a wide range of careers from audiologists to accountants, doctors to dietitians, health care assistants to HR staff and speech and language therapists to the supplies team will all be available to talk to visitors individually about their roles and careers.
Members of staff from many different departments across the trust will be giving short presentations throughout the day explaining what their work involves on a day-to-day basis, how to pursue a chosen career path and the opportunities available at Airedale.
There will also be a resource room including workshops offering tips on completing application forms and how to prepare for a job interview.
Ian Hargreaves, assistant director in the medical director’s unit at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The objective of the Airedale Careers Fair is to raise awareness of the many and varied careers within the NHS, there is a role for everyone with the right values regardless of their background or qualifications. We hope the event will inspire the next generation of NHS employees.”
“We want to promote not just the front line staff who provide direct care to patients, but also those who work behind the scenes. There are many jobs within the NHS that people may not have even considered.”
Representatives from local universities, colleges and other NHS organisations will also be on hand to give training and careers advice.
The Careers Fair is aimed at people of all ages who would like to find out more about a career in the NHS including pupils choosing their GCSE or A level options, school leavers, sixth formers thinking about university courses, graduates in all subject areas or adults of any age who may want a change of career.
