17 February 2017 – darts and dominoes raise money for stroke patients
Darts and dominoes at a local pub led to a generous donation to Airedale Hospital’s Stroke ward.
Customers of the Helwith Bridge Inn, near Horton-in-Ribblesdale helped to raise £1211 with a darts and dominoes night, after one of their regulars, Avril Palmer, was cared for by the team on the Stroke ward.
“We wanted to say thank you to the staff by raising money to help them buy equipment” says Helwith Bridge landlady Carol Stott. “Avril enjoys darts and dominoes so it felt like the obvious way to do it. I was amazed at how many people attended on the night and lots of other people sent donations. Avril is a good friend and a real character at the pub, so we wanted to show our gratitude to the teams that helped to bring her back to us.”
Ward senior sister Anthea Wagstaff is delighted with the donation; “We are so grateful for this money as it means we can make some changes to the ward to make rehabilitation easier and help give our patients a better recovery. We are very pleased at the progress Avril’s made; she’s a star and we miss her! We’d all like to say a big thank you to the customers of the Helwith Bridge Inn for their generosity – it will make a real difference to future patients on the ward”.
