19th January 2012 – Audiologist named one of the best for 3rd time in 3 years
An audiologist, who cares for patients with hearing difficulties at Airedale Hospital, has been specially commended in a national competition for the third year in a row.
Alan Walshaw, a senior audiologist with Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, has received a certificate of commendation and a trophy in recognition of his achievement in the UK Audiologist of the Year awards.
The competition, which is voted for by patients, asks them to nominate someone they feel deserves the award, giving reasons why they think their audiologist stands out from the crowd.
Alan, 44, who has worked at the hospital for six years, says: “I am delighted to have been nominated for this award for a third time. It is a real honour for me to be thought of so fondly by the patients I care for. Looking after someone’s hearing is a major responsibility, and it is wonderful to know that my support is appreciated.”
Paula Brinson Pyke from Rayovac, the hearing aid battery manufacturer which sponsor the competition in conjunction with Audio Infos magazine, says: ”Congratulations to Alan on his success. It is clear from the entries that he is an audiologist who goes above and beyond the call of duty to help his patients and that he is greatly respected by them.
“There are many excellent hearing professionals around the UK and just being nominated is a major achievement. To be recognised three times in three years is amazing and a reflection of Alan’s hard work and dedication.”
