28th August 2014 – Thank you to Airedale Hospital’s dedicated volunteers
A special event was held to say thank you to more than 350 people who volunteer at Airedale Hospital.
It was held on Tuesday 19 August over a lunch time in a giant marquee on the site. There were talks about our new endoscopy unit by matron Denise Todd and sister Julie Blackburn who thanked the volunteers for their support and new equipment they had bought for the department.
Bridget Fletcher, chief executive and Michael Luger chair of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, officially thanked the volunteers for all their hard work and commitment they show to the hospital.
She said: “Our army of volunteers dedicate an enormous number of hours of their free time to support the hospital. We are very grateful and can never thank them enough for the work they do for us.”
Eileen Proud, chair of Friends of Airedale, said: “It was a wonderful day and lovely event. It was good to see so many management representatives there to say thank you in person.”
All of the volunteers belong to either Friends of Airedale or Airedale New Venture, two charities that support and run shops in the hospital. Other volunteers help with feeding patients and support the Real Time Patient survey, which involves patients being asked for their views about their care before they leave the wards.
There are 35 activities that the volunteers help provide which include: running car boot sales to boost hospital funds; a library service, patient transport, providing flowers for wards and the chapel, a Saturday social event, a befriending service, guides to direct people around the hospital, the hospital’s radio station – Radio Airedale, ward trolley service, and managing bookings for the commercial stalls in the outpatients department.
