29th December 2015 – Local boy wins competition to create Christmas card
A local boy showed off his creative talent to win a competition to design a Christmas card for Airedale Hospital.
Nine-year-old Simon Hudson, from Braithwaite, was chosen as the winner of the festive contest for his Christmas pudding design by Bridget Fletcher, chief executive, Michael Luger, chairman, and Joanne Newman, matron for children’s services at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.
Children were asked to draw a festive themed picture to be used as the trust’s electronic Christmas card. Simon won love to shop vouchers for coming first in the competition.
The competition took place in November and was open to all children attending Airedale Hospital’s Emergency Department, outpatients unit and children’s ward.
Joanne Newman, matron for children’s services at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We decided to run the competition to give children the chance to be more involved with their local hospital, as well as giving them something fun to keep them occupied whilst they were here.
“We had a huge number of entries, all of which were fantastic. It was definitely tough for the judges to pick a winner. We would like to thank everyone who took part.”
The card has been sent by staff across the trust to colleagues in other health and social care organisations as well as key partners and stakeholders.
