Rob Aitchison, Chief Operating Officer and David Crampsey, Executive Medical Director at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“In the light of increasing numbers of patients needing to be admitted to our hospital, we have today taken the decision to postpone all non-urgent, non-cancer surgery for the next four weeks.  This includes all day case procedures.

“We are extremely sorry that we have had to take this step.  We know people will have been anticipating their operations and will be disappointed.   However we need to ensure that the hospital can continue to care for the people who need us most urgently.

“Our Emergency Department remains open for urgent and life-threatening conditions, and we are continuing outpatient appointments and some diagnostic procedures.

“If you have any questions, please contact your specialty team via the details on your most recent letter from us, or contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01535  294019 or 294015, or email PALS.office@anhst.nhs.uk.”
