6th August 2015 – Bollywood comes to Airedale Hospital’s Family Open Day
Bollywood and Bhangra dancer Chiragi Solanki (pictured) shows staff at Airedale Hospital some moves and steps so they can shine at their public open day whatever the weather. She is one of the star attractions at the event and will be asking visitors to join her Asian arts dance class at 2pm in the education centre carpark on Thursday 20 August.
Chiragi has her own group of professionals who have performed nationwide including at West Yorkshire Playhouse, Sheffield Arena and Manchester Museum; runs regular Bollywood dance classes in Keighley and Leeds for adults and children alike and has worked in over 50 schools.
The public open day starts at 12 noon until 4pm, in a marquee and the education centre, on the hospital site. Visitors can have a go at treating a life-like medical mannequin, learn what happens in laboratories, or have free blood pressure or BMI tests.
There will be more than 50 interactive stalls offering fun for all the family including a chance to try your hand as a surgeon with our saw bones game or make a smoothie using your own pedal power. Health advice will also be available including spotting the signs of breast cancer and caring for people with dementia.
Music lovers can join in with the ‘Sing from your Heart’ choir or creative visitors can have wound make- up done, just like in the movies.
Take a turn on the inflatable assault course, visit the brand new ‘Streetlite’ bus, meet furry friends – the Pets as Therapy and Guide Dogs and visit our ‘Right Care’ zone and tell us about your care. There will also be free refreshments.
Michael Luger, chair of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “This is a great opportunity to find out more about what goes on in our hospital and about care provided in our local community.
“Our staff do their best to make sure that the event is fun, interactive and interesting and provides entertainment for the whole family during the school holidays.”
