Airedale turns pink for Breast Cancer Care
Airedale hospital went pink on Friday 20 October in aid of Breast Cancer Care’s ‘Big Pink’ event and raised a total of £476 for charity.
The breast care team had a stand with information on good breast health, the facts about breast cancer, and a ‘pin the badge’ game. There was also a cake sale, with all proceeds going towards the Breast Cancer Care charity.
A second cake sale and a ‘win it pink’ competition was held by staff in the sterile services department, also raising money for Breast Cancer Care. One of the technicians, Lauren Briscoe, dyed her hair pink for the occasion, raising £150 in sponsor money.
Staff from all across the hospital were encouraged to wear something pink on the day to show support for the Big Pink event.
Miss Claire Murphy, Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, says “Whatever your age, size or shape, it’s important to check your breasts regularly. Everyone is different, so getting to know how your breasts look and feel will help you know what is normal for you. You will then be more confident about noticing any unusual changes and reporting them to your GP.”
