Airedale Hospital is calling for anyone interested in becoming a governor to consider standing for election when nominations open on 3rd April.  The trust has a number of Public Governor seats available across Keighley, Bradford, Craven and Pendle:

  • Central and East Keighley
  • Keighley West
  • Pendle East and Colne
  • Rest of England
  • West Craven

Airedale Hospital has 22 governors who sit on the council of governors, 14 are public governors, who each represent a local area, 4 are staff governors who each represent a staff group and 4 are appointed governors who represent other partner organisations, such as local councils.

Governors act as a link between the hospital Board of Directors and the public.  Governors are elected by foundation trust members each year.

Andrew Gold, Chairman at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust says:

“We welcome interest from committed members who want to put themselves forward to be a Governor given the important role Governors have, both holding the Board to account and Governor’s engagement with the public to ensure Airedale continues to serve the needs of the local population.”

The governors work is varied and in the last year governors have been involved in a variety of events and open days both at the hospital and at local venues. Governors recently attending a workshop hosted by West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership highlighting the work of the West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts and the work going ahead across the locality.  Governors also recently hosted information stalls in the outpatients department to gain views about the hospital and attended the maternity open day.  Work is currently taking place in partnership again with Bradford District Care Trust to hold an event on Thursday 19th April 4pm – 6pm at Airedale Hospital focussing on eating disorders.

Jerry Stanford, Lead Governor at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust says:

“As the momentum of change within the NHS increases, so does the importance of the Public Governor;  it is vital that the public voice is heard and we need strong representatives from their district to put themselves forward to join our enthusiastic and busy Governor team.”
