Hundreds of people flocked through the doors of Airedale hospital to be part of their first maternity services open day on Saturday.
The open day was enjoyed by new parents, mums-to-be and lots of families, as well as those interested in pursuing a career as a midwife.
Visitors had the opportunity to chat to maternity staff and obtain information about the services available at Airedale. There were activities for children such as a chocolate tombola and face painting, and children’s books for sale. New parents or parents-to-be also had the chance to sample some of the parent education classes available at Airedale.
A visitor who is expecting a baby left feedback saying she was looking forward to seeing members of staff she’d met at the open day when she comes onto the labour ward, and to start going to some of the education classes and groups.
Mary Armitage, head of nursing and midwifery in women’s and children’s services, said “All staff who work within maternity services do an amazing job every day, and this open day was a brilliant showcase of everything they are capable of. We are so proud of our fantastic midwives and hope that everyone who visited the open day were able to see just what a great service we are able to offer.
“My favourite part of the day was getting to meet babies who were born on the unit and had come back to visit.
“Our midwives provide a top rated service during pregnancy, birth and beyond and our facilities on site here at Airedale are comfortable and welcoming. Newly pregnant mothers can call 01535 292411 to arrange your first appointment – we’re looking forward to meeting you!”
The open day was organised by maternity staff and took place in the hospital’s education centre.
