Upper Gastrointestinal Cancers

The upper gastrointestinal team specialise in diagnosing, treating and caring for people with cancers of the upper GI tract including; oesophagus (gullet/food pipe), stomach, pancreas, liver, gall bladder and biliary tree.

At Airedale NHS Foundation Trust we offer all suspected cancer patients an appointment within two weeks of their GP referral. We have a rapid access to the endoscopy unit which provides facilities for upper GI endoscopy.

We offer a range of services by a team of specialists, including;

  • Scans– we can provide MRI scans, CT scans and PET scans. These are important as they provide information about abnormalities inside the body that are not otherwise seen

  • Endoscopy– endoscopies are carried out on our endoscopy unit

  • Oesophageal stenting

  • ERCP carried out in endoscopy

  • Surgery

All patients diagnosed with upper gastrointestinal cancer will be discussed at a multi-disciplinary team meeting. Please click here to find out more about multi-disciplinary teams.

A team of specialist staff provides support to patients diagnosed with all upper gastrointestinal cancers before, during and after treatment. Including in-patient care, radiology, histopathology, follow up care and palliative care.
