Airedale pathology has a comprehensive clinical biochemistry department that includes general biochemistry, endocrinology, therapeutic drug monitoring and immunology. It is also responsible for the processing of virology specimens and reports in conjunction with the microbiology department. The department provides high quality analytical results on patient samples, interpreting the significance of the data obtained and advising on whether further investigations are needed. The clinical biochemistry department also leads on the management of point of care testing within the hospital.
The department is under the clinical direction of Mr Colin Evans, Consultant Clinical Scientist and is managed by experienced biomedical scientists. A continuous shift system operates and is therefore available every day, around the clock. Outside of routine hours, there is a reduced service of only the more common and clinically urgent tests. Consultant advice to support the service is available at all times.
We employ state of the art automation and sample handling systems ensuring increased efficiency and patient safety. This allows effective management of quality whilst processing over 1 million test requests per year.
