Acute and Specialist Outreach
The team assess and treat a range of patients in the hospital setting with routine and complex presentation in order to prevent admission and help with early discharge. This includes assessments in the Emergency Department, the Acute Medical Unit as well as assessments on ward based patients. The acute physiotherapy service also has a specialist outreach role for patients with cardiac and pulmonary conditions. There aim is to education, support, improve function and mobility to prevent admissions to hospital and improve the management of long term conditions.
The Acute physiotherapy team consists of 4 specialist teams

The Cardio/Respiratory team
We cover patients on wards 7, 13, 14, 19, CCU, HDU and ICU. We also provide Pulmonary Rehabilitation classes in community locations in Keighley, Ilkley, Craven (Skipton and Settle) and community Cardiac Rehabilitation classes at Airedale Hospital and in Keighley.
The Orthopaedic team
We cover elective and acute orthopaedic patients on ward 9, 10, 19 as well as paediatric orthopaedic patients on ward 17. The team also see elective joint replacement patients prior to admission for an education and information session in the Joint Replacement Education Group.
The Stroke/Neuro team
We cover patients on ward 5 who have had a stroke, TIA (mini stroke) or other neurological conditions. The team can be contacted by ringing the therapy room on ward 5 direct on 01535 29 4052
The Medical Team
We cover patients on wards 1, 6, 15, 19 and the Acute Medical Unit (AMU).
