The Sterile Services Department at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust provides decontamination (sterilisation) services for the hospital as well as other organisations in the area.
We are a team dedicated to the production of quality medical and surgical procedure packs and trays for use in clinical areas. As a department we aim to deliver customer specified packs that are timely, cost effective and appropriate for use.
Our decontamination process is carried out with the use of automated washer disinfectors, a chemical washer disinfector, automated steam sterilisers and a gas plasma steriliser (low temperature steriliser)
The department operates a computerised traceability system for all items. This system offers full traceability for items processed through the department.
All items which require transportation to external customers using the road system are packed in UN 3291 approved transportation boxes.

The department complies with Health Building Note 13 and operates a Class 8 Clean Room. Quality standards are maintained through external Notified Body audits for the quality management system and quarterly external environmental monitoring for the Clean Room.
The department’s opening times are:
- Monday – Thursday 7.00am – 12.00 midnight
- Friday 7.00 am – 8.00 pm
- Saturday 8.00 am – 12.00 pm
