Young Volunteers Programme

Our Young Volunteer Programme aims to support young people to gain valuable volunteering experience to develop your knowledge and skills as well as enhance the patients experience at the hospital.

The programme works with enthusiastic, approachable and responsible young people between the ages of 16 to 25.

Currently, volunteers can choose from two main roles:

Ward meet and greeters

Role description:

This role involves visiting a ward between 4pm-7pm to carry out a range of tasks including meeting and greeting visitors at the ward entrance, supporting patients with their meals, taking part in activities such as card and board games and general befriending.

When would I volunteer?

For this role we’d like a minimum commitment of one session per week (2-3 hours) between the hours of 4pm and 7pm

Creative Arts Volunteers

Role Description

This role will support us to deliver activities such as drawing, painting, clay work, textiles, singing, story making, looking at art and object handling. You will receive a two day training course and be supported on the wards for up to 8 weeks until you feel confident enough to lead creative activity sessions in pairs.

When would I volunteer?

For this role we’d like a minimum commitment of one session per week (2 hours) between the hours of 2pm and 4pm.

Both of these roles involve working directly with patients and visitors to help improve recovery and reduce isolation of individuals staying at the hospital.

You will be provided with a comprehensive induction and training programme before starting your volunteering role and will have ongoing support from our coordinator and our ward staff.

You will also be provided with any reasonable costs for travel.
