Youth Volunteer Programme

The Youth Volunteer Programme aims to support young people gain valuable volunteering experience to develop your knowledge and skills as well as enhance the patients experience at the hospital. We are looking for enthusiastic, approachable and responsible young people between the ages of 16 to 25.

Young volunteers who successfully complete the application process will take part in meet and greet on closed wards, support at meal times, speaking to patients and taking part in light activities such as playing board games with patients.

Once you have completed a three month period volunteering with us there is an opportunity for additional training. This role will support us to deliver activities such as drawing, painting, clay work, textiles, singing, story making, looking at art and object handling. A bespoke training package will be created and delivered by a charity called Pioneer Projects. After your training the usual commitment will be 2-3 hours per week on an afternoon over a minimum of six months.

These roles involve working directly with patients and visitors on interactive activities to help improve socialisation and reduce isolation of individuals staying at the hospital as well as improve recovery. You will be provided with a comprehensive training programme before starting your volunteering role. We will be offering students the opportunity to work in pairs and ongoing support is available. You will also be provided with any reasonable costs for travel.
