Find out more information about how our new hospital will be better for our patients, their families and carers, our staff, and the environment by hovering over the boxes below

Transforming care
The new building and the use of new technology and innovations in care will enable us to develop and improve services.

This includes expanding same day emergency care, new ways of delivering planned procedures to reduce the need for hospital stays and waiting times, streamlining access to care that will reduce pressure on emergency services, and doing more minor procedures in outpatients.

Improving patient and visitor experience
People have told us that having a light, bright and accessible building is important and that’s what our new hospital will offer, making it easier and quicker for people to get the care they need.  Single en-suite rooms for all patients will offer greater privacy and dignity, and there will also be social spaces so patients do not feel isolated. To support greater involvement for families and carers there will be space to stay in patients rooms, as well as facilities in the neonatal and children’s wards and the intensive care unit.
Supporting effective and efficient care
The new hospital will have a simpler layout to help patients navigate the building and support staff to work more efficiently. Services that need to work together – such as Accident & Emergency and operating theatres – will be located close to each other to reduce transfer times between departments, making it as quick and easy as possible for patients to get the care they need.  There will be standard layouts for treatment rooms and other areas so staff can get the equipment they need as quickly as possible.
Meeting our communities' needs
Detailed research has gone into ensuring the hospital will have the flexibility to meet the needs of our diverse communities and our growing and ageing population.

This information has been used to make sure it will have the right number of beds, treatment rooms, theatres and departments, and larger clinical areas to meet modern healthcare needs and improve accessibility.

Maximising green space
People have told us that green space is important, so our design aims to create as much green space as possible and protect the biodiversity that makes our site so special.

Harnessing the benefits of our rural setting
There are proven links between calming environments and patient recovery times, and our design will make the most of the views of the rural landscape and provide spaces for calm reflection.

Maximising the benefits of new technology and innovation
We are building a “smart” hospital that will make the best use of digital technology to help deliver care, such as using patient fall monitors. We will also use technology to manage the building and its various systems.
Being sustainable and environmentally friendly
The hospital will be designed to meet NHS Net Zero building standards, and low-carbon and sustainable materials will be used wherever possible.
