Securing the Future: New access road
New Access Road
We are planning to build a new access road and footpath from Skipton Road. This will be near the new car park.
- The road will provide better traffic flow and access to the hospital site.
- There will be separate access for the public and construction traffic while building work takes place.
- The new two-way road system around the hospital site will provide better site access and will improve traffic flow for hospital visitors.
- There will also be clear routes for pedestrians and cyclists.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is an extra access road being built?
The dedicated site entrance is for construction traffic, such as trucks, diggers and cranes, while the building work takes place. This is so we can make sure patients and staff can get around the hospital site safely and help prevent extra congestion.
The junction for the new access road will be near existing Eastburn traffic lights. What will be the effect on traffic in Eastburn? And how will traffic through Steeton village be impacted? Can there by mini-roundabouts at the entrances and exits?
Bradford Council Highways Department will advise on the approach to managing traffic.
Can the entrance on Haxton Boulevard (which is gated and for use only in the case of major incidents) be used instead of the new access road?
This is not possible – it is not safe, or allowed, to bring that level of traffic through a private housing estate.
Will the footpath that currently runs into the site from the area of the proposed junction be lost?
A footpath will be provided that will align with the new access road.
Will the road on the hospital be one-way?
No, the roads will be two way.
Will the original road into the hospital be kept?
Yes. Access to the new car park will come from both the existing entrance road to the hospital and the new access road.
Will there be a footpath going all round the site?
Yes – this needs to be designed to take account of all the changes proposed on site and will be aligned to the new road round the site.
How will the new access road affect public transport into, out of, and along the main road and how will ambulances be impacted?
The new access road will create a second entrance and exit for the hospital. This should reduce queuing to enter and leave the hospital, which will also benefit ambulance access too.
Can the former access to the station from the estate to the east of the site be reinstated?
We will raise this with Bradford Council.
