As World Breastfeeding Week launches on the 1 August, Airedale Hospital is proud to announce their recent successes with the UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative.
Airedale’s Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) has been successful in gaining the Certificate of Commitment and Maternity has gained Stage 2 Status, both awarded by the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative.
Wendy Toulmin, Infant Feeding Coordinator at Airedale Hospital explains:
“The Baby Friendly Initiative supports families with feeding and developing close and loving relationships so that all babies get the best possible start in life. Working in collaboration between Maternity and SCBU at Airedale has strengthened the support we can provide to our families.
“As we start World Breastfeeding Week, we wanted to share our commitment to its theme ‘Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding support for all’ and celebrate the successes of the unit”.
World Breastfeeding Week is held 1 – 7 August every year, and is supported by the World Health Organisation, UNICEF and many Ministries of Health and civil society partners. The campaign celebrates breastfeeding mums in all their diversity, throughout their breastfeeding journeys, while showcasing the ways families, societies, communities and health workers can have the back of every breastfeeding mum.
