We’re Flexible

We understand that not everyone can work in the same way. That’s why we run a flexible working scheme. For some of our staff, this could look like; a formal flexi scheme, part-time, job share, compressed hours, career break, working from home, flexible retirement. You’ll also gain a good chunk of annual leave – anything from 27 to 33 days, plus bank holidays, and access to the NHS pension scheme which is one of the best in the country.

Supporting Wellbeing

We look after our staff just like we look after our patients, and we work hard to support each other.
All our staff have access to a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Service and Employee Assistance Programme. Both these services are agile – they adapt to however our staff need them. If you join us at Airedale your journey will start with a wellbeing induction. This will be followed up regularly, so that we’re clear on how we can best support your wellbeing at work.

All our staff have access to a dedicated staff clinical psychologist and immediate family counselling.
We also offer many physical benefits including online exercise platforms and wellbeing classes.
If you need to take a break at work we have a dedicated wellbeing garden – it’s a quiet, tranquil area and a much-loved green space that’s shared by our staff and the local nature around us too. We encourage regular walks and outdoor meetings.

Disability Confident Employer

In 2022 we were accredited as a Disability Confident Employer, in recognition of our commitment to making employment opportunities whilst embracing disability.

The scheme helps employers recruit and retain great people, to challenge attitudes and increase understanding of disability, whilst drawing from the widest possible pool of talent and improving employee morale by demonstrating fair treatment.

In the previous 12 months the trust has re-launched the Enable network for colleagues with disabilities, created a new reasonable adjustments guide and toolkit and rolled out training for managers so they have the latest advice on how to support their staff.

The trust is also focussing on inclusive recruitment, making sure applicants are aware of what’s on offer to support them in the workplace, and explaining that if they meet all the essential criteria there is a guaranteed interview scheme, and that once in employment the trust supports staff with reasonable adjustments and an Adjustments Passport, so the adjustments are agreed and recorded in one place so staff don’t have to repeat the process if they move teams or departments.

Armed Forces Advocate

In 2022, we appointed a new Armed Forces Advocate to provide information and support to patients, families and staff who are members of the Armed Forces community.

Ex-serviceman Martin Flint-Johnson joins the trust in a pilot role supported by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. It has been jointly funded by the Covenant Fund Trust and NHS England, awarding almost £2 million in 2021 to help support our most vulnerable ex-armed forces in acute hospital settings throughout the UK.

In the new role, Martin will work to identify and talk to ex-armed forces or serving personnel that come into the hospital and their immediate families to see if there is any additional support that could help them.

Martin’s parents and brothers all served in the armed forces and he himself served in the Army with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers for 10 years, on both active service and peacekeeping tours around the world. He is now in receipt of a War Disability Pension for physical ailments which occurred while serving and received support from the Hidden Wounds service for his mental health, providing him with a good understanding of the challenges some people from the Armed Forces community may experience.
