Emergency Department Volunteers
The volunteers in the Emergency Department offer the gift of their time to support patients, families, carers and staff.
Over the past two years, they have helped the busy department immensely by filling the gaps that the team didn’t know existed until the volunteers arrived.
They are thoughtful and caring and often check in with staff members on busy days to ask if they would like a drink – these small gestures have made a massive difference to the morale of the team.
For patients, the volunteers provide comfort, distraction and a kind presence to those in the waiting room. They’re on hand to answer any queries, refill the clean water jugs and run to different departments if the team needs something picking up or delivered.
The team is continuing to grow and develop by committing to attend extra training and they have made a huge contribution to the team.
Our three Team of the Year awards were generously sponsored by Archus.

Pathology IT
The Pathology IT team has had an incredibly challenging year due to the implementation of a full system upgrade.
The upgrade added pressures to workload, causing the department to be stretched but every member of the team has remained calm, collected and dealt with matters in a polite manner.
- Chris has led the team with confidence, compassion and dedication.
- Aiden has developed his leadership skills, taking on additional responsibilities and stepping into meetings and liaising with other sites and suppliers.
- Andrew used previous laboratory experience to act as a primary link between the scientific and laboratory staff groups and worked beyond his role, excelling with technical knowledge and ability.
- Paul led on working through the large array of request reports required and didn’t let learning a completely new database structure defeat him.
- Clotilde stepped up to take on more admin tasks to help free up Andrew and Paul. She has remained calm and positive throughout the upgrade.
