Airedale has welcomed the latest results from the 2025 National Cancer Patient Experience Survey, which show patients continue to rate the overall quality of cancer care highly, while also highlighting areas where further improvements can be made.

The results come as NHS teams see and treat record numbers of people for the disease – NHS cancer checks have reached nearly 3.4 million in a year – more than doubling in the last decade.

The survey, undertaken on behalf of NHS England, received responses from 343 patients treated at Airedale, representing a response rate of 53 per cent – higher than the national average. Patients gave their overall cancer care experience an average score of 8.7 out of 10.

Airedale achieved one result that was significantly above the expected range nationally, with patients reporting particularly positive experiences and saying they definitely received enough care and support at home from community or voluntary services during treatment.

The Trust also performed well across a number of areas, including:

  • 96 per cent of patients said advice from their main point of contact was helpful.
  • 96 per cent said a member of the care team helped create a care plan to address their needs and concerns.
  • 92 per cent said staff provided relevant information on available support.
  • 89 per cent felt the whole care team worked well together.

Caroline Salt, Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“We are pleased that patients continue to rate their overall cancer care highly and that our teams have been recognised for the support they provide, particularly in helping patients access care and support at home during treatment. These results reflect the dedication and compassion of colleagues across our cancer services and partner organisations.”

The National Cancer Patient Experience Survey is one of the most comprehensive measures of cancer care from the patient perspective and provides valuable insight into where services are performing well and where improvements can be made.
