Haematological Cancer
Welcome
Haematological cancers include various types of blood cancers, including acute and chronic leukaemias, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloprolifeative disorders, aplastic anaemia, Hodgkins and non-Hodgkins lymphoma, multiple myeloma and plasma cell disorders.
At Airedale NHS Foundation trust we offer all suspected cancer patients an appointment within two weeks of their GP referral.
We offer day case chemotherapy in our haematology and oncology day unit (HODU) as well as inpatient chemotherapy and supportive treatments.
Haematology services at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust have a collaborative service with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which means that each hospital has its own outpatients, day case chemotherapy, joint MDT and in patient beds.
All patients diagnosed with a haematological cancer will be discussed at a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meeting. All patients diagnosed with a cancer are discussed at a multi-disciplinary team meeting. This is where a group of doctors and other health professionals involved in your care and treatment discuss and decide together the best treatment options for you. MDT meetings for haematological cancers are joint with Bradford and Leeds.
A team of specialist staff provides support to patients diagnosed with all haematological cancers before, during and after treatment.
