Mr Cruickshank is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in knee surgery. His NHS practice is based at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust where he also undertakes trauma surgery and provides an acute knee injury service. He specialises exclusively in knee surgery, providing advanced care for patients with sports injuries, degenerative knee disease and complex knee problems.

Mr Cruickshank’s specialist practice covers all aspects of knee surgery, including:

• Knee replacement surgery (total and partial)
• Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction
• Knee arthroscopy
• Meniscus / cartilage injuries
• Sports knee injuries
• Patella (kneecap) disorders

He graduated from the University of Leeds Medical School and undertook trauma and orthopaedic surgical training in the Yorkshire and Humber Deanery. During his training he also completed the British Orthopaedic Association Leadership programme focusing on skills to improve the delivery of clinical care.

Mr Cruickshank went on to complete two prestigious knee fellowships at Harrogate and District Hospital and the Royal Derby Hospital. During this advanced training he worked alongside internationally recognised knee surgeons, gaining extensive experience in sports injuries, joint replacement and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery using modern techniques. He has a particular interest in partial knee replacements and performs more than the national average of these each year.

In addition to his clinical practice, he plays an active role in surgical education and is an Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS) instructor and the Royal College Education Sector Tutor at Airedale, where he contributes to the training and development of future surgeons. He has written and contributed to peer reviewed publications, book chapters and presented both nationally and internationally.

Outside of work, Mr Cruickshank enjoys spending time with his family and making the most of the Yorkshire countryside. He is passionate about maintaining an active lifestyle and believes in practising the principles of health and fitness that he encourages in his patients. He regularly trains and competes in HYROX events, enjoying the challenge and discipline of functional fitness. His own commitment to staying active gives him a practical understanding of the goals and aspirations of patients looking to return to sport, exercise and everyday activities after injury or surgery.
