Professional Background

Mr Tyler’s medical degree was obtained from St Andrews University and The University of Manchester in 2004. He undertook his basic surgical training in the Yorkshire School of Surgery. Subsequently he undertook his Specialist Orthopaedic training in the South East Thames rotation, which included periods in Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and at Kings College Hospital in London. His final 2 years prior to his consultant appointment were fellowship level training in Upper Limb surgery. His first fellowship was in Australia at the Perth Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Centre for a very sought after Sports Orthopaedic Fellowship. His second fellowship was back in the United Kingdom at the prestigious St George’s Upper Limb Fellowship in London. Finally he undertook the Hand Fellow post at Guy’s and St Thomas’ in London.

All of this experience has enabled him to become an expert in arthroscopic and open surgery of the shoulder and elbow including rotator cuff repairs and stabilisations. Plus shoulder and elbow joint replacement surgery.

Academically Mr Tyler undertook and obtained a Master’s degree in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery through the University of Brighton. His interest in sports surgery led to him undertaking a Postgraduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine through the University of Bath. He has published book chapters, scientific articles and presented at national and international meetings.
