The trauma and orthopaedic department offer planned (elective) and trauma services for musculoskeletal conditions. The trauma and orthopaedic team consists of surgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, plaster technicians, nurses and non-clinical support staff. The team work together to ensure the very best care is available for musculoskeletal problems.

The Trauma and Orthopaedic team work across multiple sites to provide care.

Airedale General Hospital Locations:

Ward 9:  Location A19

This is the Trauma inpatient ward, where acute Orthopaedic patients receive their care.

This is the Planned (elective) inpatient ward, where elective inpatients (for example Hip or Knee replacement patients) receive their care.

This is the surgical Day Unit, where day case trauma or planned (elective) patients receive their care.

Fracture clinic: Location A1, Clinic 12
This is where the outpatient trauma clinics are held. Trauma clinics run daily but an appointment is required. These are usually provided by the Accident and Emergency Department.

Airedale Physiotherapy Department: Location A9:
The physiotherapy department provides Physiotherapy services for Trauma and Planned (elective) Patients. The Multi-disciplinary Upper Limb One Stop Clinic is also held in the physiotherapy Department at Airedale General Hospital.

Outpatient Clinics:
Trauma and Orthopaedic clinics are provided at Skipton General Hospital in the Outpatient Clinic area.

The Department provides Physiotherapy services for Trauma and Planned (elective) Patients.

Planned (elective) orthopaedic surgery care is offered at Airedale General Hospital and at Skipton General Hospital. Our orthopaedic consultants specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and surgery of musculoskeletal conditions.

Referrals

Referrals are received electronically from Musculoskeletal (MSK) services, General Practitioners (GP) and First Contact Practitioners (FCP) in the community. Referrals for trauma patients are received via the Accident and Emergency department and via electronic referrals from GPs and FCPs.

2. Spine

Spinal surgery is not provided by Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. Regional spinal services are provided by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. www.leedsth.nhs.uk
