Ward 18

Ward 18

Ward 18 Location: B4

Ward 18 is an 11 bedded mixed sex Planned orthopaedic ward based at Airedale General Hospital.

Infection Prevention

Reducing the risk of post operative infection is a high priority for patients admitted to ward 18.  To facilitate this all patients are screened for MRSA prior to admission.

The ward is ring fenced, meaning only orthopaedic patients are admitted to ward 18.

Ward 18 is comprised of three 4 bedded bays and 3 side rooms.

Although the ward is a mixed sex ward every effort is made to ensure patient privacy and dignity is maintained.

Bed areas are single sex and toilet and washing facilities are segregated.

Patients are admitted to the ward 18 prior to planned orthopaedic surgery.

This may include: Arthoscopy services, Joint Replacement Surgery, Foot and Ankle Surgery and Upper limb surgery.

The Joint Replacement Education Group

Prior to admission for a Hip or Knee replacement patients are invited to attend an education group on ward 18 run by a nurse and therapist.

We understand patients may be nervous regarding their admission and hope attendance will reduce anxiety by providing relevant information and the opportunity to ask questions.
